My name’s Tom. I’m a writer and filmmaker based in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
I’ve been a copywriter for nearly six years.
I currently work as a copywriter for a small tech company in Leeds called aql. I do all aql’s writing, and work with our designer to bring words and visuals together to create impact. In a bit more detail, I’m responsible for:
- Writing copy for articles, marketing campaigns, blogs, websites, brochures, press releases, bios, speeches, Wikipedia, case studies, quotes and more
- Shaping company voice and personality
- Setting the company’s content strategy
- Collaborating with designers, PR managers and third-party agencies to bring words and visual together
- Directing, shooting and editing short documentary films and interviews
I previously worked for the Volkswagen Group, writing content for their internal website; wrote copy for Audi’s social media channels; and worked as a photographer and filmmaker for various charities (e.g. Big Lottery and SASH).

I was a 2017 finalist in BAFTA Rocliffe’s annual ‘New Writing Competition’ with my anthology TV script A STRANGER COMES TO TOWN. BAFTA Rocliffe is one of the UK’s most prestigious and well-regarded screenwriting competitions and, as a result, I’m now a member of BAFTA’s ‘new talent’ network.
I’m a 2018 Imagine Impact finalist with a feature film script. Impact is the new content accelerator program for screenwriters run by Oscar-winners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment. Launched in 2018, Impact instantly became one of the industry’s most competitive screenwriting competitions with over 4000 entries from around the world. I finished in the top 40/top 1%. Of those 40, 20 winners were chosen, among them Emmy nominees, writers who have sold shows to the major US TV networks and other industry veterans.

I wrote and directed a short zero-budget sci-fi film called Watch the Skies. You can watch it here.
I’m working on a follow-up.
I graduated in 2013 with a First Class degree in Business Management and Marketing from Keele University.
